Palm trees are part of the character of the Costa Blanca landscape, lining private gardens, urbanisations and seafront promenades alike. A regular remedial prune is about far more than looks: it clears away dead fronds that could fall, removes spent flower stalks and fruit that attract pests, and gives us the chance to spot problems such as the red palm weevil (picudo rojo) early.

⚠️ The red palm weevil: the biggest threat to palm trees
The red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) is a beetle whose larvae tunnel through the inside of the trunk and can kill a palm in a matter of weeks if it goes unnoticed. It has been widespread across the province of Alicante for years now. Correct pruning — leaving no unnecessary wounds in the trunk, since these are exactly how the insect gets in — together with regular inspections is the best prevention there is.
